Course Description: The Environmntal Health (PH 470) series covers community environmental health practice. The Public Health 470 series uses a unique online, instructor-led, self-directed study format. Instructors are continuously available to monitor progress, provide feedback, and evaluate learner proficiency. Learners proceed through these courses at their own pace. The courses that constitute the Environmental Health course series (PH 471-477) can be taken individually or in any order. These courses will enable learners to be proficient in:
  • recognizing environmental health issues in the community and identifying government and community organizations that are resources on environmental health issues (PH 471 - What Is Community Environmental Health?)
  • recognizing human health effects of environmental exposures in the community and identifying government and community organizations that are resources (PH 472 - Human Health Effects of Environmental Exposures)
  • applying principles and tools of environmental risk assessment in completing a comprehensive quantitative risk assessment of potentially hazardous environmental and workplace settings (PH 473 - Source and Exposure Assessment)
  • applying principles and tools of environmental risk assessment in completing a comprehensive qualitative risk assessment, including onsite evaluations, of potentially hazardous environmental and workplace settings (PH 474 - Qualitative Risk Assessment)
  • applying principles and tools of effective risk communication in addressing community concerns about environmental hazards (PH 475 - Environmental Health Risk Communication)
  • (PH 476 - Quantitative Exposure Assessment: Lead Poisoning) (under development)
  • (PH 477 - Environmental Prevention and Control: West Nile Virus) (under development)
